INTAKE PROCESS
Our intake process at Martha’s Hope is designed to be welcoming, straightforward, and respectful of each individual’s circumstances. We aim to make the process as quick and unobtrusive as possible while ensuring that we maintain a safe, secure, and supportive environment for all guests.
- Arrival and Check-In: Guests are welcome to arrive at The Bridge starting at 6:00 PM. Upon arrival, each guest is greeted by our trained intake team, who will guide them through the check-in process. We maintain a warm and respectful approach, understanding that each guest’s situation is unique and sensitive.
- Basic Information Collection: During intake, we gather essential information to ensure we can provide the best possible support. Our intake team collects basic contact details, any specific needs or concerns, and any health or dietary considerations that may require attention.
- Safety Screenings with Metal Detector: To ensure the safety of all guests and staff, we use a metal detector to screen individuals upon entry. Guests’ belongings are also inspected for any prohibited items. For added safety, we offer an amnesty box for the disposal of any items that may pose a risk, such as weapons or paraphernalia. Martha’s Hope does not conduct background checks but does check state and national sex offender registries, as required by law, to provide a secure environment.
- Personal Belongings: Guests are provided with personal storage options for essential belongings, promoting a sense of security and respect for each individual’s privacy. All items are screened upon entry for the safety of everyone at the shelter.
- Review of Shelter Guidelines: As part of the intake process, guests are introduced to Martha’s Hope’s guidelines to ensure a respectful and peaceful environment for all. Our team explains key guidelines, such as curfews, no-loitering policies, and personal responsibilities while staying at the shelter.
- Support and Immediate Needs Assessment: Our Empowerment Coaches are available to discuss any immediate needs or concerns guests may have. During intake, guests can speak privately with a coach to outline any urgent needs, mental health support, or safety considerations, ensuring they receive prompt and compassionate care.
- Working with Empowerment Coaches: After staying for three nights, guests are expected to work with our Empowerment Coaches to begin developing a personalized care plan. This collaborative effort helps identify steps toward stability and self-sufficiency, focusing on key areas such as housing, employment, mental health, and life skills. Empowerment Coaches work closely with guests to create realistic goals and connect them to the resources and support needed to achieve lasting change.
This intake process allows us to welcome each guest into a safe, secure, and supportive environment where they can begin to rebuild and access needed services. Our staff is available throughout the intake to answer questions, provide assistance, and ensure every guest feels at ease and respected.
