Excitement Builds for the United Way Campaign at this Year's Kick-off Event

Cocky & Campaign Chair, Sean JohnsonThe excitement has been building, and now it's official! The 2008-2009 campaign is in full swing for United Way of East Central Alabama. The start of a new United Way Campaign is always cause for celebration, and 350 local residents were on hand Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at The Bridge in Anniston to mark this year's kick-off. Even JSU's mascot, Cocky, was in on the action proudly wearing his LIVE UNITED t-shirt. The program focused on United Way's new direction and its three community initiatives: 2-1-1; Success by 6; Executive Director, Curtis Simpson as and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Those present experienced a live call to the 2-1-1 call center, viewed this year's Campaign Video, and witnessed a surprise appearance by "Dolly" who was on hand to promote Imagination Library. Well, maybe it wasn't Dolly. Actually, United Way's Executive Director, Curtis Simpson, did his best Dolly impression, but he fell a little short by refusing to shave off the gray moustache. He put his whole heart into it, and proved there wasn't much he wouldn't do to help meet the needs of our community. Campaign Chair and Co-Chair, Sean Johnson and Joe Whitmore, announced that the 2008-2009 Campaign goal has been set at $1.5 million. Mr. Johnson stated that a dynamic Campaign Cabinet has been assembled and the end result will be exciting to see.The money raised will work right here where we all live, work, and play to create lasting change and build a stronger community. We would especially like to thank our Campaign Sponsors who make our events possible. We encourage you to click here to view a list of the 2008-2009 Campaign Sponsors.
