United Way held its Annual Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 to honor those who give back to our community. The program focused on the United Way experience through giving, advocating, and volunteering.

Companies from all over Calhoun County were honored for their participation in United Way's 2007-2008 Campaign. Among those recognized was
AXA Equitable who received the award for "Highest Per Capita" giving to United Way. The company has 100% employee participation with a per capita gift of $625.

United Way of East Central Alabama's most distinguished award, the Cliff Colyer, Jr. Excellence in Service Award, was given to
Alabama Power Company. The organization has had at least five employees serve as Chairman of the Board for United Way in addition to numerous employees serving as members of the Board. They have been a long-time campaign sponsor, and have contributed over $416,000 to United Way through employee and corporate giving just in the past five years. Alabama Power Company is a true shining example of what it means to give back to our community.

The last award of the event was focused on the volunteer efforts of United Way's Day of Caring. The Kitchin's Caring Hand Award is given each year to a Day of Caring volunteer who goes over and beyond the call of duty to ensure succes through the event.
